Cushman/Amberg Communications Takes Home Two Top Industry Awards
Brunswick Bowling's "Kick the Habit" Campaign Wins Big
CHICAGO (May 2007) - The agency's "Kick the Habit" campaign created for Brunswick Bowling & Billiards division won two public relations industry awards including a Golden Trumpet from Publicity Club of Chicago and a Skyline from Public Relations Society of America- Chicago.
When New Jersey passed smoke-free legislation prohibiting smoking in all bars, restaurants and public places, the state's dining and entertainment industry went into a panic, but Brunswick saw something different - an opportunity to reinforce the "changing face of bowling" by embracing the ban and acting as its poster child.
Cushman/Amberg Communications worked with Brunswick Bowling and its New Jersey area managers to develop an approach that would help Brunswick minimize revenue loss resulting from the ban, communicate its family-oriented messages and generate positive publicity for the local centers.
Thanks to the success of its proactive communications plan, Brunswick received vast media coverage and only lost 2 percent of its year over year revenue-a far cry from the historical 20-30 percent potential loss in revenue from smoke-free legislation. The company considers the strategy to be such a success that it is replicating the efforts in other states that are faced with potential smoking bans.
